Common Concerns & Home Solutions

  • Poking Wire: If a wire is causing discomfort by rubbing against your cheek or gums, try using the clean eraser end of a pencil to gently bend the wire away from the sensitive tissue. Alternatively, cover the poking tip with a small piece of dental wax to create a smooth barrier.
  • Loose Bracket or Band: If a bracket or band loosens but remains attached to the archwire, you can apply a small amount of dental wax to hold it in place and prevent it from sliding or causing irritation. Please contact our office to schedule a repair visit.
  • Soreness or Tenderness: Normal soreness after an adjustment can be managed by rinsing your mouth with a warm salt water solution (one teaspoon of salt dissolved in eight ounces of warm water). Over-the-counter pain relievers can also help ease temporary discomfort.
  • Lost Spacer: Spacers create necessary room between your teeth prior to placing bands. If a spacer falls out, contact our clinical team to determine if a replacement is needed before your next scheduled appointment.
